"It's cereal for you my boys," she said, "and then you can play outdoors.
But first get dressed and help your dad finish the morning chores.
Gather the eggs and feed the chickens; dress warm; its cold out today.
After breakfast there will be time to go outside and play."
We had a big barn with hay stored up top to feed our livestock cattle.
We played war in hay-bale mountains winning many a battle.
After the hay was cleared on one end, we created a basketball court.
Minnesota boys playing in the barn enjoying a winter sport.
The weather may be chilling outside but the livestock kept the barn warm.
Inside the lighted basketball hoop; outside a white winter storm.
Grandpa and Grandma arrived before noon to join the celebration.
Aunts and uncles and cousins would come to stay for the day's duration.
Uncle Jack would play basketball with the older girls and boys.
The basketball court up in the barn was filled with joyful noise.

Francis Joseph Zwilling
Francis (Sunny) Zwilling, age 66, a resident of Sauk Rapids, MN, died June 1, 1997, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services were June 5 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Mayhew Lake with Rev. Francis Britz officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Sunny was born October 5, 1930, in Pearl Lake to John and Anna (Kunkel) Zwilling. He married Betty Theisen in Holy Cross Catholic Church at Pearl Lake on April 24, 1958. They lived and farmed in Pearl Lake prior to moving to Mayhew Lake where he farmed, had a poultry farm business and owned and operated Sunny’s Logging. He was also co-owner of T & Z Wood Products in Cold Spring, MN. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church and was a CCD instructor. He was a member of the Bishop Marty Council Knights of Columbus at Foley, MN. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; and is father and father-in-law to Mary Beth Zwilling of Nashville, TN, Lori Ann Zwilling of Royalton, Mark and Mary Jo Zwilling and Brian and Sandy Zwilling of Foley, Chuck and Kellee Zwilling, Ken Zwilling, Jason Zwilling, and Sarah Zwilling all of Sauk Rapids, Nita Zwilling and Janet Zwilling of Pine River, MN, Dan and Erin Zwilling and Kari Zwilling and her fiancé Dave Donaldson of St. Cloud, MN; he is also survived by sisters and brothers, Lucille Clem of Frazee, MN, Mary Ann Theis of Long Lake, MN, Sister Agatha Zwilling of St. Joseph, MN, Jim Zwilling of Big Lake, MN, Rosie Salzer of Cold Spring, Peter Zwilling and Jack Zwilling of Kimball, MN, Jerry Zwilling of St. Cloud, Yvonne Bentler of Clearwater, MN; and 17 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey Zwilling and grandson, Anthony Zwilling.
Casketbearers were sons, Mark Chuck, Brian, Ken, Dan and Jason Zwilling.

Anna Rita Zwilling (born Kunkel), 1909 - 1970
John was born on January 1 1902, in Morris, Stevens, Minnesota, United States.
They had 9 children: Francis Joseph Zwilling, Lucille Marie Clem (born Zwilling) and 7 other children.

Notes for Anne Kunkel:
The St. Cloud Photo News (morning edition) of December 7, 1964 did a story about Anna. Originally from New York City, Anna's mother died and her father remarried. His new wife did not want any girls. Anna was sent to the New York Foundling Home. Her sister was older and was sent out to work and had quit school while in 5th grade. When Anna was 5 years old, between 300 and 400 "orphan" children were put on a train to find new homes. Some children were as young as two months old. Each had a little bag with a tin cup, plate, fork and spoon. The train traveled into Canada and then into Minnesota. The train stopped at larger cities and people would come and pick out children to adopt. The Kunkel family had only one daughter and chose to adopt Anna. When they adopted Anna, the family spoke only German and Anna spoke only English. The family welcomed Anna with a new doll. They had quite a time of it. When she was 26 years old, Anna found her natural sister. The story in the St. Cloud Photo News resulted from a reunion of the train children that was held in St. Cloud.
As many as 35,000 children were placed in new homes via the "Orphan Trains". The trains were the idea of Methodist Minister Charles Loring Brace, founder of the Children's Aide Society of New York. Some children found themselves riding the train more than once. Janet Liebl wrote a book entitled "Ties That Bind, the Orphan Train Story in Minnesota".
